Rules & Regulations

All ranked matches are played as best of 3 sets. Each set is first to 6 games with a tiebreak at 6-6 (first to 7 points). If players split the first two sets 1-1, a super tiebreak (first to 10 points, must win by 2) is played instead of a full third set. The super tiebreak decides the match winner.

Players are entitled to a maximum 5-minute warm-up before the match begins. Warm-up is not part of match play and does not affect the score.

The challenging player is responsible for securing the court booking. Court costs are split equally between both players unless agreed otherwise in advance.

Both players must confirm the result on TennisYar within 24 hours of the match ending. If the losing player does not confirm within 24 hours the result is automatically confirmed based on the winner's submission.

If both players submit conflicting scores the match is flagged as disputed. Both players must provide evidence. Admin will review and make a final decision within 48 hours.

A player who withdraws from a confirmed match less than 24 hours before the scheduled time receives a warning. Three warnings result in a temporary ranking freeze for 30 days.

A player who fails to appear for a confirmed match without prior notice receives a walkover loss recorded against their UTR. The present player's UTR is unaffected.

Players are expected to call their own lines honestly. Deliberate cheating or unsportsmanlike conduct reported and verified by admin results in immediate disqualification from the ranking system.

Players must provide their own rackets. New balls are strongly recommended for ranked matches and should be agreed between players before the match.

Only ranked matches affect UTR. Friendly matches are recorded in match history but carry zero ELO impact. Players more than 3 UTR apart may only play friendly matches.

Players may challenge anyone within 3 UTR above or below their current rating for a ranked match. Challenging a player ranked more than 3 UTR higher is permitted as a friendly match only and carries no UTR impact for either player.

If a lower-ranked player wishes to request a ranked match against a significantly higher-ranked player, the higher-ranked player has full discretion to accept or decline — declining carries no penalty. Accepting a challenge from a player more than 3 UTR below your level is considered a gesture of sportsmanship and is noted on your profile.

A higher-ranked player who consistently declines all challenges from players within 2 UTR of their rating for more than 60 days will be marked as "Avoiding competition" on the leaderboard.

Players in the top 10 of the national ranking are encouraged to accept at least 2 challenges per month from players ranked 11–30 to maintain the integrity of the national ranking.

Arrive on time. Your opponent has reserved their time for you. Being late without notice is disrespectful and wastes both players' court time. If you are going to be late, notify your opponent through the TennisYar chat as early as possible.

Call every ball honestly, including those that go against you. If you are not sure, the ball is in. Do not call a ball out unless you clearly saw it land outside the line. Honest line calls are the foundation of amateur tennis — there are no referees, only your integrity.

Win humbly and lose with dignity. Do not celebrate your opponent's mistakes. Do not make excuses after a loss. Acknowledge good shots from your opponent. A player who loses gracefully and congratulates their opponent earns more respect in this community than a player who wins arrogantly.

Aggressive language, racket abuse, and verbal outbursts directed at your opponent are not tolerated on TennisYar. Playing with anger affects your own game and creates a hostile environment. Composed players play better tennis. If you feel frustrated, take a breath between points — not it out on your opponent or your equipment.

Whether you are playing someone ranked 20 places above or below you, give them your full effort and respect. Do not tank a match against a lower-ranked player. Do not be condescending toward beginners — every top player was once a beginner. The diversity of skill levels in this community makes everyone better.

Confirm match results within 24 hours. Deliberately delaying result confirmation to avoid a UTR loss is unsportsmanlike and undermines the integrity of the ranking system. This community works because players trust each other — do not abuse that trust.

If you experience or witness genuinely unsportsmanlike behaviour — deliberate cheating, harassment, or abuse — report it through the app. Reports are reviewed confidentially by admin. False or malicious reports made to harm another player's standing will themselves result in sanctions. The reporting system exists to protect the community, not to be weaponised.
